ALPS Participates in Succesful ABC 2017 Plastics Conference in Chicago

ALPS joined the 33rd Annual Blow Molding Conference in Chicago from October 2nd – 4th. Organised by the Blow Molding Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), the event featured presentations on industry hot topics, panel discussions and advancements in blow molding processes and technology.

ALPS presented a range of empty bottle leak testing solutions, including the latest development the ALPS Flex Pitch. The ALPS Flex Pitch is a fast, tool-less, multi-moving head leak tester with the flexibility to test a wide range of empty containers. The machine operates without a timing screw, reducing cost for tools and changeover time radically.

Mike Lawson, Director of Sales for North & South America adds: ‘SPE is the leading technical society for the global plastics industry and the Annual Blow Moulding Conference is the place to be to discuss the latest developments in technology, equipment and techniques in blow molding. Being the industry leader in leak testing for blow molded plastic bottles, our solutions are offered as an integral part of quality control for any plastic bottle manufacturer. The innovative design of the ALPS Flex Pitch that features flexible test heads that can be pre-set to the required pitch for bottles of any shape or size, is testament to our continued investment and innovation in support of the industry’.

ALPS Introduces New Extra-Large Container (up to 30L) Leak Tester

ALPS Extra Large Container Leak Tester

ALPS (Air Logic Power Systems, LLC) is pleased to introduce a new version of our SC Linear single-station container leak tester, the SC-XL Linear. Due to the powerful functionality designed into a single head platform, higher speeds and test sensitivities are accomplished. This eliminates the need for more complicated, less efficient, and larger footprint multiple-station cylinder stop leak testers.

The new SC-XL Linear is specifically designed for large format containers up to approximately 30L. Maximum speeds range from 20 to 50 Containers-Per-Minute (1200 to 3000 CPH) for typical 20L (5-gallon) to 1L (32oz) containers, respectively. Test sensitivities depend upon the container volume and test time, with lower speeds offering higher sensitivities for a given container. Features include:

• Perfect for leak testing large containers such as 5-gallon (20L) water bottles, large F-Style industrial containers, Jerry Cans, Edible Oils, etc.

• Designed to test nominally up to 12” (305mm) width x 16” length (405mm) container sizes

• Standard 6 foot length (1829mm) by 10 inch (260mm) width conveyor

The SC-XL uses ALPS’ standard high-functionality control system; incorporating a color Touch Screen, Fully Guided Setup for all mechanical and leak testing settings, and integrated Self-Test capability to monitor and prove hole size sensitivity with the touch of a button.

Please Contact Us for any additional information on the SC-XL Linear. If you would like a quotation, please provide container drawing(s) and confirm the corresponding production rate(s).

ALPS Introduces New Two-Station Version of High-Speed Linear Leak Tester, Capable of Up To 150 Containers-Per-Minute

Two station Version of High Speed Linear Leak TesterALPS (Air Logic Power Systems, LLC) is pleased to introduce a new version of its Speed-Glider high speed linear container leak tester, called the Speed-Glider 2.5.

The Speed-Glider 2.5 offers an approximately 30% lower cost, and 25% smaller footprint, alternative to the existing 3 and 4 station Speed-Glider container leak testers.  It also offers a higher speed, higher efficiency and easier-to-setup/changeover alternative to ‘bottle stop’ linear leak testers that stop containers ‘on the fly’ using cylinders.

The two-station continuous-motion linear leak tester is capable of rates up to 150 Containers-Per-Minute (9,000 CPH).  The Speed-Glider 2.5 has a Container Pitch (distance between test heads) of 7 inches (178mm) and is nominally capable of container lengths (in the direction of travel) of up to the 5 inch (127mm) range for square containers and 6.25 inch (158mm) range for round containers.

A Timing Screw handling system provides positive control of containers, in order to ensure high efficiencies and quick/efficient changeovers at these speeds.  The system can be easily mounted to existing continuous conveyor lines, in many cases eliminating the need for additional conveyors and bottle transfers.

ALPS Introduces New Pharma Bottle Version of High-Speed Linear Leak Tester, Capable of 250 Containers-Per-Minute

New Pharma Bottle Version of High Speed Linear Leak TesterALPS (Air Logic Power Systems, LLC) is pleased to introduce a new version of its Speed-Glider high speed linear leak tester, called the Speed-Glider 4.5s.  The new Speed-Glider 4.5s is designed specifically for the pharmaceutical bottle market segment.  The first machine shipments are scheduled for March 2013.

To address the increasing speed demands of this market segment, the 4-station continuous-motion linear leak tester is capable of rates up to the 250 Bottles-Per-Minute (15,000 BPH) range.  The Speed-Glider 4.5s line extension incorporates a smaller root diameter timing screw to handle container sizes down to approximately 0.75” in diameter.

The Timing Screw provides positive container handling and control, in order to ensure high efficiencies and quick/efficient changeovers at the higher rate demands.  The system can be easily mounted to existing continuous conveyor lines, eliminating the need for additional conveyors and bottle transfers.

(NOTE: If a vision inspection is also performed on the bottles, the cameras can be placed after the leak tester, with the leak tester’s timing screw acting as an automatic spacing device.)

On-line leak testing has become a best-practice and market standard for manufacturers of Injection Blow Molded (IBM) containers.  One of the main benefits is to verify each bottle’s seal integrity – The leak test provides a functional inspection to verify that the container will seal and hold pressure.  “Short Shots” and other types of seal defects are typically the most common defects related to the IBM process.
